Heather Kim was born and raised in Korea and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling at Monash University while teaching Middle School English as an Additional Language (EAL) at the Canadian International School in Singapore. Before her role as a secondary EAL teacher, she spent 11 years teaching early years at international schools in Korea, China, and Singapore. Heather’s sessions will be online only.

Heather holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education, as well as a Master’s degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education. With 13 years of experience in international schools, she has gained an in-depth understanding of the diverse needs of individuals and the significance of culturally sensitive approaches.

Having been an international student studying abroad for 10 years and an expatriate for 7 years, Heather has developed empathy for students and families facing social, emotional, and mental challenges shaped by their unique identities and perspectives.

In her new role as a student counsellor with Monash University, Heather aims to utilize her skills and life experience to empower clients to better understand themselves by unfolding their stories and building resilience in difficult situations. In her free time, Heather enjoys yoga, dancing and travelling.

Abril Kang

Abril Kang

Languages: English, Mandarin and Cantonese

Abril firmly believes that every person has a singular story to tell and an inherent power to make positive change. She strives to provide a supportive and non-judgmental space where individuals can delve deep into their own narratives, and emerge empowered to navigate through challenges with confidence.

Abril is a corporate lawyer by background. Originally from China, Abril currently resides in Singapore but she has lived and worked in multiple countries across different regions, including Singapore, Hong Kong, United States, Abu Dhabi, Italy and Paris. Her corporate training and international experiences help her to relate easily to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, especially the challenges prevalent in corporate environment.

Abril has completed Level 1 professional training in Narrative Therapy with Dulwich Center in Australia.

Abril is available for online sessions in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and is part of the AMindset low-cost counselling programme.

Li Chen

Li Chen

Languages: Mandarin and English

Li has over 17 years of working experience in one of the most stressful technology industry and striving in the toughest role as front line sales associate. She is also a new mother with a four months old baby. She experiences and understands how stressful our life can be in the fast pacing city life. And how hard it is to balance work, family and self-care. She is a strong believer in good mental health leads to good physical health and ultimately leads to a balanced joyful life.

Li’s personal and professional life includes living working with multiple cultures in Singapore and across APAC, EMEA and USA. She believes that when we face challenges in life, what we need do to is to understand these are difficult situations that we need to deal with. Excessive negative thoughts won’t help to solve the problem but taking actions in the mindfulness states will.

She loves to work with compassion to assist clients facing depression, anxiety, motherhood, stress management , aging and death. Her goal is to help clients to enhance their life quality through the therapeutic relationship.

Francesca Chan

Francesca Chan

MOC STUDENT – Student of Counselling, Monash University

Francesca Chan has over 25 years of experience in Speech and Drama Education, Early Childhood Education and Educational Leadership. She’s a Singaporean who has lived in Shanghai, China for almost 18 years. Francesca is passionate to work with children and adults, encouraging and inspiring children, parents and educators to be their best selves and find their paths in their life journey.

Francesca’s personal and professional experience includes living and working in multi-cultural settings in different countries. She is empathetic, supportive and a strong believer in Person Centered Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Francesca has international experience supporting parents in their parenting journey and adults to build meaningful personal and professional relationships.

Francesca is currently based in Italy and mother of a Third Culture Pre-teen. She is available for online sessions in English and Mandarin and is part of the AMindset low-cost counselling programme

Sarah has been a legal professional for more than a decade before completing a Master of Counseling degree with Monash and qualifying as a counsellor in 2021. Driven by her own experience, Sarah offers unique perspectives with respect to the mental health, struggles, and personal development in workplace. Also, Sarah has particular passion and interest in working with children and teenagers to react to the challenges during the period of time.

Sarah considers herself a seeker of the truth and an explorer of the unknown. Sarah invites you to work with her to embrace the uncertainties in life and discover and live a better version of yourself.

Chui Yin Lam

Chui Yin Lam

Chui Yin is a counselling trainee in her final year of the Master of Counselling program. She has a professional finance background and has worked in commercial and corporate environments in multicultural settings for over 30 years. She has a Ph.D. in Social Science, an MBA in Corporate Finance, a Master of Business in e-business, and a Bachelor of Commerce, and she is a qualified CPA (Australia).

Chui Yin is driven by helping others. Her background and experience bring a unique perspective to her work as a counsellor. Her aspiration as a counsellor is to help her clients improve their mental well-being. She is passionate about creating a safe and supportive environment for her client’s journey to improving their quality of life.
