Caroline is a counsellor-in-training, studying for her Master of Counselling at Monash University. Before deciding to be a counsellor, she ran her own wedding planning company, supporting couples and families through emotionally significant moments and complex interpersonal dynamics. This resulted in her being able to identify relationship patterns and honed her skills in empathy, communication and emotional attunement. At the same time she was volunteering for the Joshua Hellmann Foundation organising fund raising events and assisting in liaising with families whose children were diagnosed with rare diseases. Through this work her dedication to helping people was actualised and she decided to change paths, motivating her to become a full time counsellor which has always been her true passion.

As a mature-aged counsellor-in-training she brings a wealth of experience and insight into a broad range of mental health and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, grief, loss, and major personal transitions. Her own experiences have deepened her understanding of the complexities and layers of life. This has strengthened her ability to connect with people with compassion, sensitivity, and openness.

She is developing her practice through a person-centred approach grounded in empathy, authenticity, and genuine human connection, believing strongly in the power of being heard in a non-judgmental, safe space for personal awareness and growth. Central to this approach is her belief that every person is unique with their own story, experiences, strengths, and challenges, and she values working collaboratively in a way that honours each client’s individuality. She has an interest in Emotion-Focused Therapy, The Gottman Method, Grief Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and supports clients in navigating a wide range of life challenges. She draws on mindfulness techniques to promote emotional balance, self-awareness, and positive change.

Originally Dutch, she spent her whole childhood in Japan, studied in the UK, and has now lived in Hong Kong for over 30 years. Comfortable across different cultures and communities, Caroline has a deep appreciation for diversity and a culturally sensitive perspective and appreciation.
