Megan Chang

Master of Counselling, Monash University, HK.

Individual Fee: HK$1150 per 50mins.

Couples Fee: HK$1450 per 50mins

Languages: English, Mandarin, or Cantonese.

Megan is a CBT, DBT, ACT and person-centred therapy counsellor

I have been working with clients of all ages facing situations that significantly strain their mental and physical health. For clients who want to find purpose in their lives, need to make difficult decisions, suffer from emotional distress, or struggle with coping, my session is a safe space of unconditional support to work on any issues. Regardless of whether the matter may be related to external events like relationship conflicts or internal conditions such as depression, anxiety, grief, or self-esteem, together, we can not only move past the issue but move forward in a more positive direction through systematic and solution-focused processes.

My psychotherapy sessions use integrated evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which are effective for a multitude of mental health concerns. I dedicated myself to supporting clients who struggled with their problems and difficult emotions by empowering them to find strength from within and solve their issues along with self-development. While respecting the client’s culture, background, religion, and values, I conduct psychotherapies via a person-centred approach based on the belief that everyone can find their way to live to the fullest.

I am originally from Taiwan but have lived in Hong Kong for 13 years. Having three children, I am familiar with the stress stemming from family development and different parenting dynamics. So I can relate to and provide ample support to clients in various life stages. I worked with primary students with special needs and aided them in their social-emotional development as well as learning in school. In addition, I’ve been working with local non-profit foundations in an effort to promote the significance of mental well-being and education for our community. In my leisure time, I enjoy yoga, exploring good food, and immersing myself in the great outdoors.

I have a Master’s degree in Counselling from Monash University, Australia, and am practising as a member of the Hong Kong Society of Counselling and Psychology (HKSCP) and a Member of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (HKPCA) in Hong Kong. I am currently undergoing the certification process for PESI Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Megan can provide counselling services in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese. Please note your preference when booking.

TESTIMONIALS for Melody:

Michelle Wong (Hong Kong)

Melody’s Mentee since 2008

Melody is a very patient and intelligent listener. I am often stuck in my own perspective and get “lost” in my world when I run into issues. Melody will empathise with me and share views from different angles which are easily missed when my judgement is clouded by emotions. I am always able to feel better and relieved after speaking to Melody. Melody is also great with her practical advice. She offers step-by-step, achievable suggestions that suit my personality. I have nothing else but praise for Melody’s mentoring, and for years she has certainly played a key role in my mental growth!

Gladys Ng (Hong Kong)

Melody’s Mentee since 2007

Melody has been mentoring me for over 15 years.  She literally witnessed and provided unconditional support throughout my transition from an adolescent to an adult.  She was able to lift me up when I was going through tough times by sharing a clear and objective view on various situations.  Her affirmative words had assured me of my potential, while her patience and calmness had always put me at ease, so I would be more willing to seek help.  Her encouragement and positivity had inspired and empowered me to pursue my dreams.  Her mentorship throughout the years had definitely contributed to the success in my career and adulthood in general thus far.  In sum, Melody’s mentorship and guidance were truly enjoyable and fruitful to my personal growth.

Chloe (Hong Kong)

At a crossroads of numerous paths, all fogged with uncertainty, Melody was like a warm guiding light that supported me in finding a path best suited for myself. I started sessions with her when I felt the most unhappy about my job and unresolved issues with my family, I was stuck. With her patience and sympathy, she provided me with a comfortable space to open up to great detail while she listened and responded with candour; like how she introduced me to a new perspective that helped explain the core issue of my work problem, and how to adjust my mindset to comfortably adapt. While it was only for a little over a month, Melody provided me with useful tools for my toolbox that has equipped me for the future. Thank you, Melody!

Natalie – Hong Kong

I cannot thank Melody Funk enough for the counselling services she provided. I was dealing with issues related to a lack of self-love, self-awareness and self-confidence building, and she enabled me to understand the root cause of the matter is being traced back to my childhood (how parents raise me up and related parenting skills), which shapes the current me. Melody helped me to understand that a lot of anxieties/depressions that I have been experiencing along were hypothetical worries/ideas that are self-created in my mind, which are unlikely to be happening in real life. She shared with me some quick fix methods that could help lessen my frequency of overthinking, such as introducing me to meditation music and breathing exercise which helps to ease my stress away. Melody is a patient and caring therapist, throughout the past 4 months, she is able to capture a lot of the little details related to my upbringing/issues being shared with her in each session and is able to walk through the challenge with me in a new perspective and way of thinking and handling. I observe there is a distinct improvement in my mental health and I am now able to think in a more positive way through the guidance of Melody. A big thanks to Melody for her commitment. And the most fantastic thing, it was at a price I could afford. If you need help, AMindset offers excellent and affordable counselling services with professional counsellors.

Elise Phillipson

Psychotherapist and Group Counsellor.

Fee: Individual – HK$1,500 per 50mins. Couples – HK$1,800 per 50mins.

Languages: English, German and Dutch.

  • Are you feeling weighed down by the pain and anger of your past family dynamics, your parents’ divorce, even though it happened years ago, for example?

  • Do you feel like you have to be perfect all the time because of the constant criticism from your parents growing up?

  • Do you struggle with expressing your feelings and setting boundaries in your relationships?

  • Are unresolved issues from childhood causing tension and arguments in your adult relationships?

  • Is your life negatively impacted by an over-dependence on alcohol or drugs?

  • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, have you faced rejection and judgment from your family and society?

It’s okay to feel this way. You are not alone. In fact, many people struggle with the after-effects of negative experiences, past and present, which can lead to depression, anxiety, and anger issues.

It’s not uncommon to carry unresolved childhood trauma into adulthood, impacting every aspect of your life. But there is hope for healing. Through a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approach, we can work through these emotions and find ways to cope and move forward.

Communication is key in any relationship, but it can be especially challenging when you’ve grown up in a social and family environment that didn’t communicate effectively. If you struggle to express your own needs and boundaries, I can help you learn how to communicate more effectively and build stronger relationships.

Betrayals and broken promises can make it hard to trust others and be vulnerable. But it’s important to remember that not everyone is the same. Together, we can work on building trust and learning how to open up in a safe and supportive environment.

As a psychotherapist working with a range of modalities, I can help you work through life’s challenges which will enable you to find a path towards healthier relationships, at a professional and personal level.

If you’re worried about being judged or misunderstood, please know that I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for all my clients.

I also have worked extensively with the LBBTQ+ community and can understand the unique challenges and experiences you may face. I can provide a space where you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings so you can work through the trauma of rejection, judgment and misunderstandings and learn how to accept and love yourself for who you are.

I understand the challenges you’re facing, and I want to help you break free from the unhealthy patterns of your past. Together, we can explore the root causes of these patterns, work through the unresolved trauma and conflicts that are holding you back and find ways to create new, healthier habits to help you live your best life, creating intergenerational change.

Together, we’ll help you overcome feelings of insecurity and unworthiness, and learn how to express your needs, boundaries, and emotions in healthy ways.

And please don’t worry about dredging up painful memories from your past. We’ll move at your pace and create a safe and supportive environment for you to express your feelings without fear of judgment or misunderstanding.

I understand that some people may be hesitant to seek therapy, but my approach is different. I use a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approach, which means I’ll help you uncover the root of your problems, and we’ll work through them together.

I understand that seeking therapy can be daunting, but it’s important to prioritize your mental health and well-being. If you’ve had bad experiences with therapy in the past, I invite you to give it another try with me. My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can feel heard and supported.

Don’t let your past family dynamics hold you back any longer. Let’s work together towards a happier and healthier future.

I know that time and money can be a concern, but investing in your mental health is an investment in yourself and your future.

If you’re ready to break free from the weight of your past and create a brighter future, don’t let your objections hold you back from getting the help you need. Let’s work together towards a happier and more fulfilling future.

I offer flexible scheduling options and affordable rates to make therapy accessible to everyone.

About Elise

I am a psychotherapist who is committed to helping those going through transitions in their lives – voluntary or involuntary – and including LGBTQ+ communities. Using different counselling modalities, I help you learn how to accept and embrace change, look forward and build or discover new opportunities. I believe in working with you and in taking a collaborative approach to help you alleviate your troubles and to reach your goals (usually in around 12 sessions). If you want or need to go deeper, we can take our time and look at the root causes of your hurt and pain, using psychotherapeutic methods, including psychodynamics, psychoanalysis and existential therapy.

I work from the premise that there are external and internal influences that create how we live in and react to the world. That it is a mix of both as creative beliefs that we are not good enough, carrying the burdens and behaviours of the past, that we are somehow broken, not worthy, or at fault. These beliefs create behaviour and thinking patterns that are there to prove to ourselves that these beliefs are right.

As a psychotherapist, it is my role in your life to create a safe, supported space for you to help you, as the expert in your life, to unravel the origins of these beliefs and see if they still apply.

The therapeutic process is built on trust, unconditional positive regard and compassionate, open-minded listening from the therapist. It is the therapeutic relationship that will be of most benefit to you and therefore therapy will be geared towards your wants, needs and preferences.

I use a wide range of therapeutic modalities to work with you, as I believe that as each person is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all therapy. When we work through your issues or trauma, I apply and adapt Psychodynamic Therapy, Psychoanalytic Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, and other focused psychological strategies.

I also facilitate group counselling, in which I work with women going through the [peri-]menopause who are looking for support as I go through this prolonged, impactful change. To join, or find out more about these groups, please schedule a free 20 minute initial assessment by emailing office@mindset.hk.

I am Dutch but born in Germany and raised in Hong Kong, so I had a multicultural, tri-lingual upbringing. My background is in the service industry and in teaching, applicable parts of which influence my psychotherapy methods.

Jaideep’s Testimonials:

We are truly thankful for Jaideep’s help with our pre-marital counselling sessions. Although we approached this with an exploratory mindset, Jaideep was accommodating and professional in dealing with the issues we faced as a couple entering marriage. His sessions were well thought through and structured, but also remained flexible to help deal with and prioritise any ad hoc problems that arose. We are so blessed to have Jaideep’s wisdom in these sessions and will continue to draw on the techniques and tools we learned from him in our relationship journey ahead.  J. P. & M. K. – Hong Kong

I am so grateful to have Dr Jaideep as my counsellor. I really look forward to every session, as his questions tend to give me a new perspective and a lot of self-discovery. His sessions are always very structured and well thought out. He also puts in a lot of time and effort to understand his clients. It’s clear that he always revisits notes from all our sessions and remembers the details from previous conversations. He ties these important details together when appropriate and lets me view the situations from a completely different lens. He modifies the sessions based on his client’s personality and working style. Using myself as an example, he will always give me some thought-provoking homework for me to reflect on, which I found tremendously helpful.  S. T. – Hong Kong

I am so glad I found the AMindset team with their low-cost and affordable counselling services. I cannot thank Jaideep enough for the counselling he provided. For too long, I was dealing with anger and anxiety. Jaideep helped me understand how these issues developed and affected my life and those around me. In just 6 months, Jaideep helped me develop a greater understanding of myself and gave me the tools and techniques to get back to living the life I want to live.   Daniel Mullin – Hong Kong

Jaideep saved my marriage and made me mentally healthy again! During COVID, I was very stressed both at work and at home. It was a turning point for me when I met Jaideep at Amindset. I could not thank him enough for his magic work – he helped me unlock my inside struggle and patiently guided me to have more positive thinking. He is very observant and professional – he remembers things we said and draws connections for me to realise how things come together. Moreover, I particularly appreciate his wealth of experience and knowledge in life which enables him to offer different perspectives every time. Also, I want to take this opportunity to thank Amindest’s low-cost counselling services and Liz McCaughey!   Anon – Hong Kong

I have lived and worked in Hong Kong for over 18 years and am currently based in the UK.

An ex-lawyer, I have worked in executive search for over 20 years, predominately within the legal and financial sectors.  I understand the challenges of working within a high-stress, corporate environment and believe in the importance of mentoring and helping people build their careers alongside exploring productivity, empowerment, and confidence in the workplace.

Studying and working as a counsellor means I can now work with clients in a more holistic way.    I want to help my clients achieve their full potential, by understanding their goals in life and assisting them in finding the right tools and techniques in order to reach those goals.  Life has a habit of throwing all sorts of unexpected challenges our way.  I am particularly interested in working with clients navigating significant life changes – often, we are not equipped to tackle the obstacles and challenges of everyday life – big or small.

I work with clients facing depression, anxiety and transitional issues arising from life changes – divorce, redundancy, ageing, menopause, relocation, parenthood, death and grief – as well as understanding the impact of past trauma.  I work with clients to build self-awareness and improved self-esteem and self-worth, as well as taking an active problem-solving approach.  I believe in building a therapeutic relationship through empathy and trust. I will tailor solutions and therapy to fit individual clients using a person-centred approach, incorporating CBT, problem-solving, positive psychology and mindfulness.

Mostly, I’ll be there to listen and support you through your life journey.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  I am a mother of two teenagers and an energetic cocker spaniel, and am often hiking the coastal paths of Devon where I live.   I am French-Australian with a love of beaches, travelling, reading and learning.

Recent training:  I have undertaken courses in Positive Psychology, Mindfulness and Trauma.

Languages: English and Mandarin.

Cecilia Yu is originally from Taiwan and moved to Hong Kong in 2003. She has worked in multinational corporations, tech start-ups, and educational institutions throughout her career. Familiar with the challenges of working in demanding work environments and managing complex teams, Cecilia has expertise in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that was developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s for the treatment of traumatic memories and related psychological symptoms. You can find out more information HERE

Cecilia is passionate about providing psychological support for diverse individuals and groups to rebalance their lives towards healthy changes. She has trained to help clients with diverse needs, especially those with traumatic experiences, to learn to process their overwhelming emotions. Cecilia offers a safe and confidential space to understand the client’s struggles, and together, they will explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, as well as learn how to handle hardships while moving towards a richer and more meaningful life.

Each session provides emotional support but also has a mission to set treatment plans collaboratively as a team. As a Master of counselling graduate of Monash University, Cecilia uses her expertise to combine EMDR with counselling therapy methods best suited to the client’s needs. These methods include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),  Emotional Focus Therapy (EFT), Internal Family System Therapy (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
