I am very fortunate to have lived in many beautiful parts of the world – France, Australia, 18 happy years in Hong Kong, and currently in the UK.   I can understand the challenges of integration and the joys of making new friends.

I initially trained and worked as a lawyer before moving into legal search, working primarily within financial services in identifying legal talent for over 20 years.   The things I enjoyed most about my career included helping people build and shape their careers, problem solve and above all, fostering human relationships.  Keen to continue working with individuals in a more holistic way, I have undertaken the Master of Counselling Course with Monash University.   I look forward to establishing therapeutic relationships based on trust and empathy and helping clients realise their full potential.

Passionate about mental health, I am particularly interested in helping people navigate significant life changes – often, we are simply not ready to tackle the obstacles and challenges we face in everyday life.    Life stages (menopause, parenthood, ageing) and events (grief, redundancy, divorce) can cause instability, and counselling can help to find understanding, balance and peace in our lives.   I believe in remaining open and flexible and will tailor sessions around the client’s needs.   While I am continuing to learn about different modalities, I have exposure to person-centric therapy and CBT, and have a strong interest in mindfulness.

My family and I currently live in the UK, where I am coming to terms with living with two thirteen-year-olds who are now taller than me.  I am often found wrapped against the wind, hiking Devon’s coastal paths, and chasing our energetic cocker spaniel, Coco.

Lara’s Testimonials

LT, Hong Kong, 25 yrs.

I have met with a couple of other counsellors in the past, but Lara proved to be the most effective counsellor I have ever met. She was able to deal with my problem in a surprisingly short period of time and provided me with a safe and non-judgmental space which helped me to confidently express the issues I was facing for the first time. We looked at how my past history had shaped my views and values. This understanding allowed me to engage better in all my key relationships. Lara was extremely professional but very warm and friendly. I hope many people will be helped just like me.

LB, Hong Kong, 46 yrs.

I am very grateful to Lara for the counselling services she provided when I was suffering with bereavement after the sudden loss of my mother during an incredibly stressful time. She helped me to navigate through the different factors which were preventing me from coping with my loss and helped me to understand what I needed to do in order to move forward. She very quickly understood the type of person I am and what would and wouldn’t work for me. She helped me to find coping strategies and get me to a point whereby I could manage my grief and not let it overwhelm me. She has a very calm and empathetic nature with a pragmatic approach and relatable sense of humour, all of which were critical for me to be comfortable with her. I recommend Lara highly.

I believe every client knows what’s best for themselves; sometimes life’s obstacles just get in the way. It is my goal, through a process of guided discovery, to help you understand what thought patterns or events from your past may be holding you back.

I utilise a holistic approach, integrating deep psychodynamic work with evidence-based cognitive approaches, which enables me to tailor my sessions to each client’s needs. Whether you’d like to talk about your childhood, are looking for strategies for overcoming challenges at work or in relationships, or just need a nonjudgmental listening ear and a space to unpack life’s stresses, I strive to make our counselling sessions a collaborative experience that can help you get where you need to be.

Originally from the UK, I have lived in Hong Kong for 19 years. With a background in early childhood education, I began working with families to help them understand their unique roles in children’s development. I realised that many parents are still on their own journey of self-discovery and saw firsthand how that could impact the entire family. Now, I focus on disconnection and its many faces – how feeling overwhelmed, anxious and stressed can drive behaviours such as overwork, endless scrolling or relying on alcohol and substances to relax or feel more in control.

If you are struggling with a sense that you don’t know where to go in life or can’t put the pieces together by yourself, I’d like to help.
