What is Mental Health?
Mental health is actually about wellness rather than sickness. Mental Health is a state of well-being as a person appreciates their potential in life and how they can cope with day-to-day life. It is not about a problem, it’s actually about what is going well. The words mental health are used every day but, unfortunately, there is usually a negative connotation attached to the words.
Mental illness is associated with mental health conditions that adversely affect a person’s well-being. However, when working with mental health, the aim is to promote wellness. It is a complex subject and not one that is easy defined. The fact that someone is not experiencing a mental health illness doesn’t necessarily mean their mental health is in good shape. Likewise, it is possible to be diagnosed with a mental health condition (illness) while feeling well in many aspects of life.
Ultimately, mental health is about the way we think, feel and develop relationships – and the aim is to keep our mental health within the ‘healthy spectrum’.
While aMindset’s primary focus is on the needs of people affected by depression, anxiety and suicide, we also focus on the overall well-being of individuals. We hope that through the knowledge available on the website everyone can learn how to support and recognise signs of early mental health problems within themselves, their family and friends.
The earlier you seek support, the better. aMindset has Therapists who will be able to assist you.
