Online Psychotherapy Vs. Traditional

Psychotherapy is called the ‘Talking Cure’ and it seems a recent study at the University of Zurich, Switzerland has shown that online psychotherapy is just as efficient as the old fashioned traditional, in person therapy. When it comes to Online Psychotherapy Vs. Traditional Therapy it has been proven that Online Psychotherapy is just as good. The clinical research showed that the results for online therapy actually exceeded all expectations. A total of 6 therapists treated 62 patients all of whom were mildly depressed. The patients were divided into 2 groups and randomly assigned to either the online psychotherapy or the face-to-face therapy. A total of 8 sessions using different techniques were used and in the medium term online therapy was more effective.

Professor Andreas says: “In both groups, the depression values fell significantly,”

At the end of the treatment, no more depression could be diagnosed in 53 percent of the patients who underwent online therapy – compared to 50 percent for face-to-face therapy. Three months after completing the treatment, the depression in patients treated online even decreased whereas those treated conventionally only displayed a minimal decline: no more depression could be detected in 57 percent of patients from online therapy compared to 42 percent with conventional therapy.

In both groups the degree of satisfaction was equally high with the statistics showing 96 percent of the online therapy patients as opposed to 91 percent of the conventional therapy rated the contact with the therapist as close and personal.

“In the medium term, online psychotherapy even yields better results. Our study is evidence that psychotherapeutic services on the internet are an effective supplement to therapeutic care,” concludes Professor Andreas Maercker.
