Psychotherapy Sessions

Psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health problems. It is usually more in depth than counselling and focuses on exploring the  painful feelings and experiences you have experienced in the past but which are affecting you in the present. By working with a skilled therapist you can work through and alleviate symptoms such as phobias, anxiety, depression that are adversely affect your life.

It may take only weeks to help you cope with a short-term situation. Or, treatment may last a year or longer if you have a long-term mental illness or other long-term concerns. Psychotherapy may not cure your condition or make an unpleasant situation go away. But it can give you the power to cope in a healthy way and to feel better about yourself and your life.

Psychotherapy will help you to take control of your life so you can respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. And not everyone who benefits from psychotherapy is diagnosed with a mental illness.  Psychotherapy can help with a number of life’s stresses and conflicts that can affect anyone.

Liz McCaughey  is a registered psychotherapist in Hong Kong and Australia with over 13 years experience in individual therapy and group sessions. You can read more here.

What to Expect

At the first psychotherapy session, the therapist will gather information about you and your needs.

You will be asked to fill out forms about your current and past physical, emotional & mental health issues.

The first session is also the opportunity to discover if you and the therapist are the right fit.  Don’t hesitate to ask questions anytime during your appointment. The therapist is there to help you and the more comfortable you feel with your therapist, the better the treatment will be.
