Master of Counselling Student, Monash University HK.

Fee: HK$350 per 50mins.

Languages: English. Samantha was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Vancouver, Canada.  Upon her return to Hong Kong in 2010, she worked in the legal industry and for the majority of her legal career, worked with divorcing clients in their separation and the children and financial issues they faced as a result of the divorce.  Samantha is a trained mediator and through her experience in mediation, she believes that conflicts are often resolved when parties are given an opportunity to speak, to be heard and to compromise with some assistance of a professional third party.

Samantha has always been inclined towards helping others.  She has enjoyed working with organizations that assist individuals in new communities to explore new resources, overcome challenges/struggles and create a new sense of belonging. Some examples are cultural centres that help new immigrants or university programs that help new international students on campus.  Samantha believes that coping strategies and mental health are extremely important as people go through different experiences in life.  Therefore, in her counselling, Samantha strives to understand and work with each client to find strategies and solutions that also work and integrate well into the other aspects of their lives including the client’s family, work environment, social network, cultural or religious beliefs.  Samantha is pursuing her passion to help others and to learn more about mental health issues by studying a Master of Counselling at Monash University.

Samantha is approachable, patient and empathetic.  She provides a comfortable, safe and non-judgmental environment for her clients to explore their thoughts, needs or the next course of action.  Because of her upbringing and work experience in Hong Kong as well as in Canada, she has a good understanding of Asian and Western cultures and values which help Samantha to communicate effectively with clients from different backgrounds.  Her goal in counselling is to build a strong therapeutic relationship with each of her clients, to help strengthen their mental health and to empower each of them to build a “tool-box” they can use when making their own decisions to achieve a well-balanced life with the help of counselling.

Samantha is available for Low-Cost Counselling (LCC) sessions in English.
